Connors Corner: Halftime from the Harbor

Some thoughts on the first half:
  • This is one of the bigger leads FU has had at the hal all season. Let's see how they react to it.
  • Anthony Johnson (12 points, 4 rebounds) is playing well. It certainly looks as if he will be a focal point of the offense this afternoon.
  • Coach Cooley mention he wanted the D to improve after allowing high percentages from the field and from long range in the past few games. So far, that message has come across: the Purple Eagles shot 29% (9-31 from the floor), in addition to a meager 2-of-12 from behind the arc.
  • Only three turnovers in the first. Han and Shake are doing a nice job.
  • Rebounding, which is always an issue with this team, was still an issue in the first half. Niagra out rebounded 22 to 18. They also let Niagra grab nine offensive board.
  • Niagra had 11 second-chance points.
  • The Stags looks very energized and pumped in the first half. They appear very energized, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They are doing a better job of hustling and sprinting to their spots. The first half D stats prove it.
  • During this four game win streak, they have only had one legitimate win (@ Sienna). After all, they did need overtime to defeat a winless Iona team twice and had trouble with a subpar St. Peter's squad. A victory today would go a long way to proving the Stags are legit.

The 2nd Half will be updated after every stoppage of play on the Men's Basketball blog. Stay tuned for updates and even more live game pictures from Chris Simmons.
