This Tuesday, Fairfield squares off against conference foe Niagara at 7 p.m. in upstate N.Y.
Fairfield (3-13) is 1-3 in the MAAC, while Niagara (7-8) is 2-2 in conference play.
The 2006-2007 Purple Eagles are a very strong team.
With five players in double digits on offense, Niagara is # 4 in MAAC scoring offense. Charron Fisher leads the pack with 21.6 points per game.
Clif Brown is the team’s top rebounder, averaging almost 10 boards per game.
Niagara’s last game came against top-seeded Siena, where it lost 81-92. The Purple Eagles played extremely well up until the last 15 minutes of the game. At halftime, they trailed only 40-41.
Fisher had the hot hand, netting 28 points. He also notched 11 rebounds.
Playing close with a very good Saints team proves the Purple Eagles are not a team to be taken lightly.
Especially potent is their offense, which accounted for 80 or more points in four of the team’s last six games.
While Fairfield’s offense has shown signs of heating up in the last several weeks, it has not yet surpassed the 80-point total.
The Stags’ last outing versus Manhattan featured great defense, but less-than-stellar offensive production.
The game marked the fifth time this season that Fairfield has limited its opponent to less than 60 points, but still has not come out on top.
Shooting only 33.9 percent from the field, the Stags also went on another costly scoring drought with less than five minutes in regulation, giving up a 9-0 Jasper run.
Here are several key factors to victory in Tuesday’s showdown:
-Greg Nero (11 pts., 4 rebounds vs. Manhattan)
-strong defensive play
-40 minutes of offense, without droughts
-Frank Romano
