Hello from the Harbor

Welcome to the Fairfield Mirror Sports Blog's first ever live game log. As the Stags take the court for tonight's contest, we're excited to give you in-depth coverage and analysis throughout the game, including news, notes, and commentary.

Tonight the Fairfield Stags (5-15 overall, 3-5 MAAC) take on the Iona Gaels (0- 18 overall, 0-8 MAAC). The Stags and the Gaels battled last week in an overtime contest that saw Jonathan Han come up big and lead the Stags to a victory. Fairfield nearly gave the game away at several instances (including one bothched in-bound pass), but managed to hang on for a W.

Since then, Fairfield shocked Sienna in a stunning victory. Cooley and the Crew are looking for "Uncle Mo".

Here's some game notes:
  • Danny Ogelsby is not dressed and on the bench.
  • The Connecticut Post and our own Tom Cleary reports that Herbie Allen and Devin Johnson are battling the stomach flu. Something to keep an eye on as the Stags are left with only one healthy, active guard in point guard Jon Han. Time will tell if Allen and Johnson will be effective this evening.
  • The 2006 Stags' Men Soccer team will be honored at halftime for their MAAC Championship and their NCAA tournament success.
  • Michael Van Schaick has scored double figures in nine straight games, including his 27 point effort in upstate New York against the Saints. Van Schaick needs to continue his recent surge for Fairfield to win.
  • An interesting game - both teams don't just want this win, they need it. For Fairfield, they're playing a winless team that they are more talented then. As if that's not enough, they're one win away from their first streak of the year. As for Iona, their last three losses included two overtime killers (Fairfield and Canisius). They then completed a heartwrenching week by losing to Niagra by one after erasing a 15-point deficit. They thought they had a W against the Stags last week; they're out to prove they can win this week.
  • Hot Dogs and Fries at the pre-game buffett - not too impressed, but Tom and I'll take it.

More at the break.

- Keith
